🌱 Summer Flower Seed Sowing Workshop

Seed Sowing at the Flower Farm

Sunday 2 August 2026
10:30am – 12:30pm

Join me at Em's Bees & Blooms Flower Farm for a relaxed and hands-on morning learning how to sow and grow beautiful summer flowering annuals from seed.

While winter is still lingering outside, August is when I begin sowing many of the flowers that will fill the farm with colour throughout summer and autumn. Together we'll explore a range of warm-season annuals that thrive in the warmer months but dislike cold, frosty conditions, including favourites such as cosmos, zinnias, celosia, amaranthus, sunflowers and more.

Many of these varieties are not only stunning in the garden but are also considered some of the best cut flowers for the home gardener! Whether you dream of filling your home with fresh bouquets throughout summer, supplying flowers for special occasions, or even growing blooms for a DIY wedding, these productive annuals will provide armfuls of flowers for months.

During the workshop you'll learn:

• Which summer flowers are best started now for a long flowering season
• How to successfully sow warm-season annual seeds
• Germination requirements including warmth, light and moisture
• Seedling care and growing-on techniques
• When and how to harden off young plants before planting out
• Tips for succession sowing to keep flowers blooming for months
• How to grow flowers specifically for cutting and arranging into bouquets

We'll also discuss which varieties offer the best vase life, produce the highest number of stems, and provide the greatest value for home gardeners wanting a constant supply of flowers for the house, gifts, market stalls or special events.

This workshop is perfect for gardeners, flower lovers, beginner growers, aspiring flower farmers, DIY brides, and anyone wanting to grow an abundance of beautiful blooms for their home, garden or cutting patch.

Everything you need will be provided, including seed trays, quality seed-raising mix, a curated selection of summer flower seeds and step-by-step guidance.

You'll head home with:

🌱 Your own sown seed tray
🌱 Workshop notes to refer back to throughout the season

Location:
Em's Bees & Blooms Flower Farm
571 Carlton River Road, Carlton River TAS

I can't wait to share the excitement of the upcoming flower season and help you get a head start on a garden full of beautiful summer blooms, fresh-cut bouquets and buckets of flowers to enjoy all season long.
