Dahlia Dividing Workshop

$125.00

Dahlia Dividing Workshop at the Flower Farm

$125 per person | 2 hours on-farm | Sunday 14th June 10:30am–12:30pm

Join us at Em’s Bees & Blooms Flower Farm for a hands-on and practical morning learning the art of dividing and growing dahlias.

Winter is one of the most important times of year on the flower farm. While the garden above ground slows down, this is when next season’s abundance truly begins. In this workshop, you’ll step behind the scenes and learn exactly how we manage our dahlias here on the farm to ensure strong, healthy plants and armfuls of flowers through summer and autumn.

Together, we’ll dig and lift established dahlia clumps straight from the field, learn how to identify viable tubers and growing eyes, and work through the dividing process step-by-step. You’ll also see how and why we replant our tubers directly back into the ground rather than storing them over winter, a method that works beautifully for our Tasmanian climate and growing conditions.

This is not a lecture-style workshop. It’s relaxed, interactive, and designed to give you the confidence to grow your own dahlias at home, whether you have a large garden or just a small patch to experiment with.

🌸 What We’ll Cover

  • How and when to lift dahlia clumps

  • Identifying healthy tubers and viable eyes

  • Hands-on dahlia dividing techniques

  • How we prepare our beds for replanting

  • Why we choose to leave and replant tubers in the ground rather than store them

  • Seasonal care and maintenance for healthy plants and strong flowering

  • Tips for growing dahlias successfully in Tasmanian conditions

🌿 What’s Included

  • A guided, hands-on workshop experience on the flower farm

  • Live demonstrations lifting and dividing field-grown dahlias

  • Hands-on practice dividing clumps yourself

  • A selection of mixed dahlia tubers to take home and grow

  • Take-home notes and growing tips for future reference

Please note this workshop will proceed rain, hail or shine. This is real flower farming and part of the experience is being out in the elements, so come prepared to get your hands dirty. Warm layers, waterproof clothing, and sturdy enclosed footwear are strongly recommended.

Spots are intentionally limited to keep the workshop personal, practical, and interactive.

Every armful of summer dahlias begins in winter.
This workshop will show you how.
